Laptops

Laptops are becoming increasingly popular as people look to mobilise their computing experience.

The word laptop is a bit of a misnomer as these computers range from tiny notebooks with 10" screens to full blown 20" screen laptops that are really replacements for Desktop PC's and are too heavy to be considered genuinely portable.

Laptops are ideal if you want to be able to use your computer in any room in the house and work well with wireless networks
(WiFi) so that you connect to the internet from almost anywhere within your house.

In terms of computing performance, laptops were traditionally some way behind desktop PC's. However this trend has reversed and there are some very powerful laptops on the market that will cater for a multitude of digital media and gaming requirements.

In terms of comparison, Laptops tend to be a little more expensive than there desktop counterparts when you compare the CPU, memory, hard drive, graphics etc although there are always some really good deals available.

The choice of desktop vs laptop really comes down to how portable your computer needs to be, these days having a laptop means sacrificing little in the way of computing power.

One thing to remember is that Laptops are a little harder to upgrade in terms of adding more memory, updating the graphics card etc, This purely due to everything being so much smaller and the limited space available within a laptop chassis.

Finally, make sure that you get a good warranty with any new laptop as they can easily be dropped, have coffee spilt on them etc!
